TEGAS Returns With Games Training Programme 2026 To Nurture Sarawak’s Next-Gen Game Developers
KUCHING: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) has officially opened applications for its highly anticipated Unreal Engine for Games Training Programme 2026.
According to a statement, it builds on the foundational milestones achieved during the 2024 pilot and the 2025 motion graphics series, this year’s five-day intensive masterclass focuses exclusively on the core mechanics of game development, rapid prototyping, and interactive design.
“Scheduled for 10 to 14 August 2026 at the TEGAS Digital Village (TDV) in Kuching, the programme is a joint partnership with EFXCO Academy, a newly credentialed 2026 Unreal Authorised Training Center.
“This strategic module aims to upskill 20 selected Sarawakian creatives, transforming them from passive consumers and visual animators into active creators of real-time interactive technology.
“The curriculum leverages Unreal Engine 5's high-fidelity capabilities, specifically featuring interactive level design via Fab asset integration, landscape level blocking, custom Player Controllers, visual effects using the Niagara framework, multi-state AI patrol tracking, dynamic user interface layout (Widgets), and audio detection,” it said on Monday.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment and TEGAS Chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said this programme represents TEGAS’ commitment to driving innovation in Sarawak’s creative industry.
“By nurturing advanced Unreal Engine skills that align with global standards, we are not only preparing our local talent for high-income technical roles but also empowering them to become future job creators who can establish local studios and build native intellectual property (IP),” he said.
“The programme directly supports Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, particularly through its emphasis on education, human capital development, and digital innovation.
“Through this initiative, TDV continues to position itself as a regional hub for interactive technology training, offering local creatives a practical pathway to transition from simple digital content consumers into active, self-sustaining tech authors and employers in the global gaming industry,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of EFXCO Academy Hussin Khan expressed joy in continuing collaboration with TEGAS on this initiative.
"With EFXCO Academy securing our official Unreal Authorized Training Center status for 2026, we are fully equipped to bring world-class training delivery to Kuching. Game mechanics and real-time storytelling are critical pillars of today’s immersive digital industries.
“This hands-on boot camp utilises Blueprint visual scripting so that passionate talent can bring complex ideas to life entirely code-free," he said.
Enrolment for this programme is limited to a select group of candidates, with special consideration given to individuals from underrepresented backgrounds or those overcoming financial hardships.
Upon successful completion of the coursework, participants will receive an official certificate of attendance endorsed by the global Unreal Engine community.
