GETS-WRP Cohort 6 Launched To Empower Sarawak Talent For Future Economy
KUCHING: The Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) today announced the launch of the Graduates Enhancement and Training Sarawak – Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP) Cohort 6, reaffirming its commitment to developing a future-ready workforce under the campaign theme ‘Empowering Sarawak Talent for the Future Economy’.
According to a statement, the programme aims to equip Sarawakian graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy driven by digital transformation, sustainability, innovation, and emerging industries.
“Since its inception, GETS-WRP has served as a strategic platform to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace expectations by providing structured employability training, industry exposure, and internship opportunities.
“Through partnerships with government agencies, industry leaders, and employers, the programme has helped hundreds of graduates enhance their career readiness and improve their employability prospects,” it said on Tuesday.
Commenting on the launch of Cohort 6, SCOPE Chief Executive Officer Joseph Lim said that Sarawak’s future economic success depends on the strength of its people.
“Through GETS-WRP Cohort 6, we are investing in our greatest asset, our young talent. This programme is designed not only to prepare graduates for employment but also to develop future leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will contribute to Sarawak’s economic transformation agenda,” he said.
The theme ‘Empowering Sarawak Talent for the Future Economy’ reflects Sarawak’s aspirations under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to build a highly skilled, resilient, and competitive workforce capable of supporting priority sectors such as digital economy, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, green technology, tourism, and entrepreneurship.
The statement also noted that GETS-WRP Cohort 6 will feature workplace readiness and employability skills training, professional communication and leadership development as well as industry engagement sessions with leading organisations.
“It also features career coaching and mentoring, internship placements with participating employers, and exposure to emerging economic sectors and future workplace trends,” it said.
The programme is supported by strategic partners including the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), TVS, Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and other public and private sector organisations committed to nurturing local talent and creating meaningful career pathways for Sarawakian graduates.
SCOPE welcomes eligible graduates from across Sarawak to participate in Cohort 6 and take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain practical experience, expand professional networks, and develop the competencies needed for long-term career success.
As Sarawak continues its journey towards becoming a high-income and innovation-driven economy, initiatives such as GETS-WRP play a critical role in ensuring that local talent remains at the forefront of the state’s development agenda. -UKASnews
