Multiple Strategic Projects Drive Urban Development Transformation In Kapit
KAPIT: The Old Kapit Airport area is set to become a catalyst for the transformation of urban development in Kapit through the implementation of several strategic projects encompassing resident resettlement, veteran housing and modern infrastructure development.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the state government has identified two key areas for development to meet the future development needs of Kapit Division.
He said the first area involves a proposal to resettle residents of affected villages to a safer location with better development potential in the future.
He explained that the approach is not new, as it has been successfully implemented in several other locations in Sarawak and has proven capable of improving residents' quality of life.
"This is not something new, we have carried out similar development elsewhere, including Kampung Datuk in Sibu and Darul Hana in Kuching.
"So we already have a methodology to develop village houses in an area that is safer and also has great potential in the future," he said.
He said this during a working visit to the proposed development site at the Old Kapit Airport area on Saturday.
In addition, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said the state government has also approved a special area for veteran housing development, which will become a new community settlement for former armed forces personnel.
He explained that both development proposals will be brought before the State Planning Authority (SPA) before implementation.
Meanwhile, he said the development of the new area will also be supported by modern infrastructure facilities, including a proposed elevated road connecting Kapit town with the new development area.
"Kapit's landscape will also change. Dato Sri Alex has proposed an elevated road, which will certainly create a new landscape for development between Kapit and this new area. This means Kapit will grow.
"I have also discussed with the architects to follow the concept used in Norway, where Kapit will become a smart city with a modern landscape," he said.
He added that the development is expected to open up new avenues for economic growth while strengthening Kapit's position as a key development hub in central Sarawak.
Also joining the visit were Minister of Public Works, who is also Kapit Member of Parliament, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Minister of Digital, who is also Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Deputy Minister at the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law and Native Customs Affairs), who is also Bukit Goram Assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat. -UKASnews
