Samarahan Bike Challenge 2026 Incident Under Investigation, Safety Aspects To Be Strengthened
KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan District Office will strengthen participant safety and welfare aspects for future editions of the Samarahan Bike Challenge, following an accident that occurred during the 2026 edition on 28 June.
In a statement on Tuesday, the office expressed regret over the incident, while stressing that the safety, wellbeing and welfare of participants, event personnel and members of the public remain a priority throughout the organisation of the programme.
According to the statement, emergency response teams together with medical personnel were immediately mobilised following the incident to provide prompt assistance to the participants involved.
The Samarahan District Office also extended its appreciation to the medical personnel, emergency teams, enforcement agencies and technical officers who acted swiftly to control the situation and manage the incident.
At the same time, the Samarahan District Office is now working closely with the Sarawak Cycling Association as a technical partner, along with enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, to obtain the facts and a full picture of the incident.
In this regard, members of the public are advised not to speculate or spread unverified information until the investigation and fact-verification process is complete.
The statement further said the findings of the investigation would be comprehensively assessed to identify improvements in planning, coordination and safety measures for future event organisation.
The Samarahan District Office also reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with all stakeholders to ensure that every cycling event organised in Kota Samarahan meets the highest standards of safety, management and coordination.
Meanwhile, appreciation was also extended to all participants, strategic partners and the local community for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the handling of the incident. -UKASnews
