New St Joseph Private School Block Symbol Of Strategic Investment In Sarawak Education
KUCHING: The opening of the new extension block of St Joseph Private School marks a manifestation of the ongoing commitment of the Sarawak Government to strengthen the education sector as the main catalyst for human capital development and state progress by 2030.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said that investing in education is not just about developing infrastructure, it is a long-term strategic investment to produce a generation that is knowledgeable, skilled and able to meet the economic needs of the future.
According to him, the opening of the new block also reflects the community's confidence in education as an important foundation in shaping the future of the people and strengthening Sarawak's competitiveness.
"Every classroom built today opens up opportunities for future generations, while every investment in education is an investment in the people and the future of Sarawak," he said when speaking during the Officiating Ceremony of the Extension of the New Building Block of St Joseph Private School on Tuesday.
He added that the development of quality human capital is now a priority as Sarawak is making strides towards an innovation-based economy driven by the renewable energy, hydrogen, artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy, advanced manufacturing and biotechnology sectors.
Datuk Amar Dr Sim said that the success of the state's development agenda does not only depend on technological progress, but instead requires the talent, expertise and ability of the people to realise those aspirations.
"No development strategy will succeed without the talent and ability of the people. Technology may accelerate growth, but it is the people who determine Sarawak's success," he explained.
In the meantime, he stressed that the education system needs to continue to be strengthened by emphasising comprehensive development that includes academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity, leadership as well as the formation of character and moral values.
He also recognised the contribution of private educational institutions such as St Joseph Private School in complementing Sarawak's education ecosystem through efforts to produce a disciplined, integrity and competitive generation.
The new extension block is equipped with various modern facilities including smart classrooms, science laboratories, multimedia learning spaces, performing arts facilities and an improved library to support a more interactive and innovation-based learning process.
