KUCHING: The Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS) 2026 serves as a strategic platform to strengthen cooperation, encourage innovation and build a more resilient, sustainable and globally networked halal ecosystem.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the theme "Sustainable Halal Ecosystem in Borneo" reflects a shared aspiration to position Borneo as a competitive, innovative and sustainable halal hub.

"We have brought together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators because we believe that collaboration is key to sustainable growth.

"When we work together, we create new opportunities, strengthen industries and build a brighter future for the halal economy," he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS) 2026, officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, at a leading hotel here on Tuesday.

He added that over the coming three days, BIHAS will provide a dynamic platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and business networking, featuring keynote addresses, plenary sessions, expert forums, business matching, exhibitions, a halal kitchen showcase, live cooking demonstrations and product-tasting sessions highlighting the diversity and innovation of the halal industry.

He noted the presence of 33 prominent speakers, comprising 16 international experts and 17 national experts, alongside 133 exhibition booths from government agencies, industry players and exhibitors from Malaysia and abroad, together with more than 415 registered delegates and many more visitors expected throughout the event.

He said these encouraging figures not only reflect growing interest in BIHAS, but also point to the significant potential of the halal industry.

More importantly, he expressed hope that every participant would leave Sarawak with new ideas, meaningful partnerships and new business opportunities that would continue to grow beyond the conclusion of this three-day programme. -UKASnews
