Sarawak Government Accelerates Process Of Traditional Village Land Ownership
BETONG: The Sarawak Government continues to accelerate the process of handing over traditional village land through the Land Survey Programme under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, thereby guaranteeing legal ownership to the people and supporting the rural development agenda.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the state government allocates approximately RM40 million each year to carry out land survey work throughout Sarawak as a measure to speed up the process of issuing land title deeds.
He said that the initiative enables eligible owners to obtain individual property rights after going through the process of measurement, gazettement and resolution of lot demarcation in accordance with the provisions of the Sarawak Land Code.
"The Sarawak Government allocates approximately RM40 million every year to carry out land surveying works throughout the state as an effort to accelerate the process of issuing title deeds to the people," he said.
He said this while speaking at the Land Title Deed Presentation Ceremony Section 18 of KTN for Kampung Triso Darat, here on Thursday.
According to him, the implementation of the Traditional Village Survey Programme under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code allows residential lots in traditional villages to be measured and gazetted before individual title deeds are issued to eligible owners.
He said that through the implementation of the programme, Kampung Triso Darat was successfully gazetted with an area of 3.56 hectares, thus allowing 46 residents to receive land title deeds at the ceremony.
Datuk Len said that legal land ownership not only guarantees the people's rights to the land they live on, but also increases the value of assets, facilitates development matters and benefits future generations.
He also urged residents to make productive use of the land owned and continue to work with the government to make the rural development agenda a success.
Meanwhile, Lingga Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor said that the handing over of land title deeds that residents have long awaited reflected the continuous commitment of the Sarawak Government in ensuring that the people have the right to legal ownership of land.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Betong Division Land and Survey Department for their efforts in carrying out the surveying work to enable the land ownership process to be completed.
The ceremony also witnessed the handing over of land title deeds to 46 eligible recipients under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.
Also present were Batang Lupar Member of Parliament Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, Acting Superintendent of Land and Survey of Betong Division Patricia Ngu Ming Hung and representative of Pusa District Officer Mohamad Lutfi Sini. -UKASnews
