KUCHING: Social media is no longer merely a platform for entertainment, but has evolved into an effective and influential medium of communication and information dissemination in shaping public thinking, particularly among the younger generation.
Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said platforms such as the UKAS TikTok Challenge 2.0 open up space for messages to be delivered quickly and creatively, reaching a wider audience within a short period.
He said the organising of UKAS TikTok Challenge 2.0 also plays a role in cultivating the production of positive, creative and quality digital content to strengthen the dissemination of information to the public.
"For that reason, UKAS organised this competition not merely to find a winner or produce the best video, but also to build a culture of positive digital content creation.
"We see that social media today is filled with all kinds of content, but through this competition, we want participants to produce ideas that are creative, positive, quality and beneficial to all," he said.
He said this at the UKAS TikTok Challenge 2.0 2026 Video Competition Prize Presentation Ceremony at the Sarawak State Library here on Friday.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
He further explained that the theme 'Inspirasi Anak Sarawak' was chosen as every child of Sarawak has a story capable of inspiring viewers, whether in terms of success, unity, cultural heritage, innovation or love for the state.
Commenting on participation in the competition's second edition, Awang Putrayusrie revealed that it recorded an increase from just 52 entries last year to 128 entries, a rise of 76 entries. -UKASnews
