Infrastructure Development In Central Zone Drives Sarawak's Economic Growth
SIBU: Comprehensive infrastructure development in the Central Zone over the past six years continues to serve as a catalyst for economic growth and an improved quality of life for the people, resulting from the ongoing commitment of the Sarawak Government under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that various strategic projects involving the construction of bridges, roads, and the provision of electricity and clean water supply extending into rural areas have successfully transformed the development landscape of the region.
According to him, the construction of bridges replacing ferry services not only accelerates connectivity but also opens up access to economic opportunities and more balanced development.
“We are not merely building bridges, but connecting communities, opening economic opportunities, and bringing development to the people throughout the Central Zone,” he said when speaking at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Central Zone Special Convention here on Sunday.
He, who is also GPS Chairman, said that these development efforts encompass the areas of Kapit, Song, Kanowit, Belawai, Kuala Rajang, and the Rajang Delta through the expansion of the road network and more comprehensive provision of grid electricity and clean water supply.
He added that these initiatives have brought spillover benefits to the local economy, including turning Kapit into one of the areas recording rapid growth in terms of commerce and population mobility.
In the same development, the Premier of Sarawak informed that the government is also planning new developments across the Rajang River in Sibu through the construction of a bridge connecting the town center with the West Bank.
According to him, the design of the bridge has been completed, and the project is expected to take about three years to complete once implementation begins.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, PBB Secretary-General Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, members of the PBB Supreme Council, delegates, and PBB members from 24 Central Zone branches. — UKASnews
