MBKS Empowers Active Aging Through Culture & Community Programmes
KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) remains committed to empowering the active aging agenda by providing various cultural, health and recreational programmes to ensure senior citizens remain healthy, active and continue to play a role in community development.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, said that the effort is in line with MBKS' commitment to develop a senior citizen-friendly city, thus creating an environment that supports the well-being and active involvement of the targeted group in the community.
According to him, active aging does not only emphasise physical health aspects, but also involves social participation, lifelong learning and close relationships in the community.
"Throughout the year, MBKS organises various special programmes for senior citizens including dance activities, health programmes, zumba gymnastics, cultural events, educational talks and recreational activities.
"We want every senior citizen to know that they remain an important part of this city, while their experience and wisdom continue to contribute to community development," he said.
He said this while speaking at the Folk Dance Show in conjunction with the 2026 Kuching Festival here, on Sunday.
In the meantime, he said the organisation of the Folk Dance Show, which has been part of the Kuching Festival for over 20 years, continues to serve as a platform to foster unity through art, culture and friendship.
He said the programme was not a talent competition, but instead served as a platform to bring together people from various walks of life to appreciate each other's diversity of culture and heritage. -UKASnews
