SSCiEX Empowers Learning Through Real-World Experiences
KUCHING: The Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX) will serve as a platform connecting students and the wider community with the world of science through experience-based learning, enabling them to explore scientific concepts beyond the classroom and textbooks.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said SSCiEX is more than just a new facility, it reflects the Sarawak Government's continued commitment to cultivating a culture of science, innovation and lifelong learning among the rakyat.
“This centre (SSCiEX) will be a living classroom, where students can experience science beyond textbooks,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the inauguration of SSCiEX, officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, here on Wednesday.
Dato Sri Roland Sagah added that the facility would also provide educators with learning resources and interactive tools to help nurture students' interest and proficiency in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Elaborating further, the SSCiEX Chairman said the centre would create more opportunities for the younger generation to explore high-impact fields such as robotics, coding, biotechnology and renewable energy, thus preparing them for the jobs of tomorrow.
“By nurturing talent at every level, we are laying the foundation for Sarawak's innovation-driven economy,” he added.
Also held during the ceremony was the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between SSCiEX and Science Centre Singapore, Petrosains Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the National STEM Association (NSA) and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) to expand cooperation in the development of STEM education programmes, knowledge sharing, innovation and experience-based learning.
In addition, the Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) inked an MoU with i-CATS University to strengthen cooperation in research and development (R&D), while i-CATS University also exchanged an MoU with Dassault Systèmes to enhance cooperation in digital technology development, engineering and the training of highly skilled talent. -UKASnews
