Sarawak Agencies Strengthen Strategic Ties With National Financial, Investment Institutions
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel led a series of strategic courtesy visits to key national institutions on Tuesday to accelerate the state's economic transformation agenda.
The delegation engaged with leadership from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
During the first meeting with EPF Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah — in his capacity as Chairman of ASSAR Asset Management Sdn. Bhd. (ASSAR Asset) — introduced the company’s mandate as the Sarawak Government’s asset management arm.
Both parties explored potential investment management collaborations across fixed income, money market instruments, and equities to enhance long-term value creation.
The delegation subsequently met with Securities Commission Malaysia Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi to introduce ASSAR Asset and discuss ongoing initiatives involving SiliconNet Technologies Sdn. Bhd. and Permodalan ASSAR, focusing on regulatory compliance and governance.
During the session, the SC Chairman recognised Sarawak’s strategic positioning as the "Battery of ASEAN," driven by its vast renewable energy capabilities and growing contribution to regional energy security.
Concluding the series of visits, the delegation met with MITI Deputy Secretary-General Jaya Singam Rajoo to explore avenues for attracting high-impact investments and boosting industrial development in Sarawak.
Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah emphasised that close collaboration between state agencies and national regulatory bodies remains vital to unlocking opportunities aligned with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
