SMD Semiconductor, Linyang Energy Sign MoA To Advance Power Semiconductor Solutions For Global Markets
SHANGHAI: SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd (SMD) and Jiangsu Linyang Energy Co Ltd (Linyang Energy) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to supply SMD's power semiconductor solutions, including Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, across Linyang Energy's smart metering and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) platforms for global markets.
The signing ceremony was held during the Sarawak Investment Mission to Shanghai, led by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan on Thursday.
Under the MoA, SMD and Linyang Energy will jointly identify, qualify and integrate SMD's semiconductor technologies into Linyang's product platforms, with an initial focus on power semiconductor devices, GaN-based solutions and intelligent power technologies for smart meters, power conversion and energy storage systems.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah said the partnership strengthens the link between Sarawak's semiconductor and clean energy ambitions, calling it consistent with the state's push to develop high-value industries around technology, renewable energy and talent.
Meanwhile, SMD Chairman Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar described the deal as a milestone in positioning SMD as a strategic technology platform for Sarawak, while SMD CEO Shariman Jamil said it creates a pathway for Sarawak-developed technology to be designed into products deployed worldwide.
Joint technical teams from both companies will focus initially on technical evaluation, product matching, design-in, qualification and commercialisation, targeting improvements in energy efficiency, power density, miniaturisation and intelligent power management.
Linyang Group President and Linyang Energy Chairman Lu Yonghua said the collaboration reflects the Sarawak State Government's strong commitment, adding that Linyang is committed to supporting Sarawak's new energy installation targets and its ambition to become a dual-core industrial hub powered by green energy and semiconductors.
