Sarawak Government Committed To Upgrading Interior Region Roads
JULAU: The Sarawak Government remains committed to ensuring that the people are able to access safe and comfortable road connections, particularly in rural areas.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state government's current focus is on upgrading the unpaved road network, including former logging roads.
According to him, monitoring of the condition of interior region roads should be carried out to identify the need for infrastructure upgrade.
"The purpose of my trip with Meluan Assemblyman Dato Rolland Duat Jubin today is to monitor and see for myself the condition of the road network in the interior region.
“The matter paid attention to is the unpaved roads, such as former logging roads.
"I, along with Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo at the Ministry for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) are organising efforts to upgrade the roads," he said.
He said this while speaking on the second day of the XPDC 3.0 Programme (Ulu Skrang-Ulu Kota-Ulu Entabai) at Rumah Nanga Ju, Sungai Mujok, here, on Thursday.
The programme also reviewed the construction work of the road project that connects Nanga Meluan with Rumah Nanga Maong, Nanga Maong Clinic, SK Nanga Ju, Rumah Gerasi and Rumah Mengiring, Ulu Ju.
The infrastructure project is expected to be completed according to the schedule set, which is in 2028.
In the meantime, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah also announced the approval of several development projects, including the construction of the New Nanga Ju Bridge to facilitate access for the school community to SK Nanga Ju as well as the entrance to the new Rumah Nanga Ju.
Meanwhile, he also reminded the public to submit applications related to the physical development of houses of worship through the correct channels, including to the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).
Also present were MIPD Permanent Secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yau, Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) Director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris, Betong Division Resident Datu Richard Michael Abunawas, General Manager of Miri Port Authority Serawa Budol, Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Roseline Mapong, Betong District Officer Laga Kueh and Rumah Nanga Ju Tuai Rumah Robert. -UKASnews
