LANDAS Entrusted To Manage 2027 SEA Games Sub-Committees
KUCHING: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (LANDAS) has been entrusted to lead several sub-committees, including accommodation and transportation, in conjunction with the hosting of the 2027 SEA Games, which will see Sarawak serve as co-host.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that this responsibility also includes managing the delegation from Thailand, thereby standing as a major trust that requires the commitment and cooperation of all parties.
“This is the platform for us to see how we can manage a major sporting event involving so many nations.
“I believe that with your experience and strong commitment, we will be able to carry out the duties and responsibilities entrusted to us,” he said when delivering his speech at the Closing Dinner of the LANDAS Sports Carnival (LASSCAR) 2026 at the Penview Convention Centre, here on Saturday.
Hence, he emphasised the importance of inter-departmental and agency cooperation in ensuring every given responsibility can be executed effectively.
He noted that the spirit of togetherness among the personnel of the Land and Survey Department as well as related agencies must be continuously reinforced to take on these responsibilities.
LASSCAR 2026 drew to a close after running for eight days from 8 to 15 August, featuring the participation of 1,463 athletes from various LANDAS contingents as well as invited teams.
The overall tournament results saw LANDAS Kuching emerge as champions, followed by LANDAS HQ as runners-up, while LANDAS Limbang secured third place.
A total of 10 sporting events were contested throughout the carnival, comprising men's football, women's futsal, netball, pickleball, team badminton, team table tennis, petanque, team carrom, team darts, and team bowling.
Also present were Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak (MUDeNR) Datu Abdullah Julaihi, Director of LANDAS Datu Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, Director of the Forest Department Sarawak Datu Hamden Mohammad, Controller of the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak Datu Jack Liam, General Manager of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation Datu Zainal Abidin Abdullah, alongside other dignitaries. — UKASnews
