Siburan Carnival A Platform To Showcase Local Products & Culture
SIBURAN: The Siburan Carnival continues to serve as a platform to highlight local products, food, and culture, while also opening opportunities for entrepreneurs and small traders to generate income.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, who is also Tarat Assemblyman, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, stated that organising the carnival since 2024 has also helped introduce Siburan to visitors from outside the area.
“We want Siburan to be known. We want local Siburan products to be known. We want the food and culture of the Siburan community to be highlighted.
“And most importantly, we want local residents to be the main beneficiaries of the growth and vibrancy of this carnival,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Siburan Carnival 2026 at the Eastern Mall compound, here on Sunday.
According to Dato Sri Roland Sagah, a total of 28 food and beverage stalls as well as nine dry goods stalls were provided for this year's edition, thereby offering local traders the chance to market their respective products.
He expressed hope that the Siburan Carnival will continue to grow as an annual event capable of attracting visitors from across Sarawak, ultimately delivering an economic spillover to the local community.
Meanwhile, Siburan District Officer and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Ranum Bari, noted that several major carnival events had to be cancelled after taking into consideration the air quality and haze conditions for the safety and health of the public.
He said the cancelled events included the Tanju Concert at Ribo Jewa Buran, the KMKK and JKKK Enhancement Workshop, Battle of the Bands, the grand finale of Miss Siburan 2026, and the Siburan Carnival Fun Run.
“We have to abide by the current conditions and directives. Although several programs had to be cancelled, we are grateful that the opening ceremony could still proceed,” he noted.
Also present were Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Damen Rejek, and Resident of Serian Division Mackos Sibong. — UKASnews
