KUCHING: The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) General Assembly and Convention in Kuching from 2 to 4 September will be the largest event in the 48-year history of the engineering body.

FEIAP President Ir Yau Chau Fong said that the programme, which will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), is expected to bring together between 180 to 200 international delegates from more than 25 countries, in addition to 500 to 600 local delegates.

According to him, the international delegations that will be present consist of representatives from Southeast Asia, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America.

“This General Assembly and Convention will be the largest event ever held by FEIAP in its 48 years,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Wednesday.

According to him, the Sarawak Premier is expected to officiate the opening ceremony on 3 September, in addition to delivering a keynote address and participating in a fireside chat session related to engineering in the Asia Pacific region.

The session will be moderated by the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital Board Chairman Tan Sri Dato Seri Ir Professor Emeritus Dr Chuah Hean Teik.

Also being held is the inaugural World Engineering Congress and Exhibition, focusing on four main areas, namely engineering infrastructure, engineering energy, climate and engineering leadership.

The event is expected to expand professional networks and cooperation among the international engineering community, as well as open up space for sharing expertise and experiences related to the development of Sarawak and Malaysia.

Also present at the courtesy call was Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Chairwoman Ir Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin. -UKASnews
