KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is expected to execute cloud seeding operations from September 3 to 5 if weather conditions meet the established criteria.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, who is also the Chairman of the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, stated that the operation aims to help address the haze situation while boosting water levels in dams.

However, he said the operation requires a suitable and conducive environment to be carried out.

"We have also informed the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to proceed with cloud seeding, but I want the public to understand that cloud seeding utilizes salt.

"To execute it, we require clouds as a source or cloud formations; however, if there are no clouds, it means environmental conditions are not suitable or conducive for cloud seeding," he said.

He said this during a SDMC press conference on the haze situation in Sarawak held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Monday.

According to Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, it is not that the government is unwilling to conduct the operation, but rather that it must be executed under appropriate weather conditions to ensure its effectiveness.

He noted that carrying out cloud seeding without conducive conditions not only risks failing to achieve the desired results, but could also lead to wasted operational costs.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah informed that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) will hold an operational meeting tomorrow regarding the cloud seeding operation to be executed. — UKASnews
