KUCHING: The National Day celebration should serve as an avenue for the people to inculcate the meaning of love for the homeland, appreciate the sacrifices of past generations, and give thanks for the blessings of peace and prosperity enjoyed.
Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the spirit of patriotism needs to be translated through a sense of responsibility, loyalty to the country, and the willingness of every individual to play a role in community development.
“The spirit of patriotism should not be limited to mere celebrations and symbolism; rather, it must be translated through a sense of responsibility, loyalty to the nation, respect for diversity, and the readiness of each individual to play a role in strengthening society and contributing to the nation’s progress,” he said in his message in conjunction with National Day 2026 here on Monday.
Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi also reminded the people of Sarawak to continue defending the harmony that serves as the state’s core strength by respecting racial, religious, cultural, and background diversity.
According to him, in facing increasingly complex global challenges, the strength of interpersonal relationships among the people and societal values must be given due attention alongside developmental achievements.
“Let us make this National Day a turning point to renew our resolve, strengthen unity of hearts, and reignite our love for the homeland.
“With the spirit of togetherness, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, we are capable of continuing to build a peaceful, stable, progressive, and prosperous Malaysia for today's generation and generations to come,” he added. — UKASnews
