The opening gimmick, which began at about 8 pm, featured the lighting of the BCF entrance arch, marking the start of the much-anticipated annual cultural festival.
Despite the slight haze affecting the surrounding area, it did little to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of visitors who began flocking to the square as early as 6 pm to enjoy a colourful array of unique cultural performances.
The opening night featured a variety of stage performances, beginning with a preliminary performance by KEMADA.
Meanwhile, the official opening performance of BCF 2026 featured a vibrant showcase of arts and dance by Hornland Dance Theatre, Link Martial Art Theatre, SJK Su Lai, SM Wong Nai Siong, SMK Sacred Heart, D’Tari and Elemenz.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were a special cultural performance by Kaki Seni Gerhayu, a cultural presentation by students of SM Wong Nai Siong, as well as a live performance by popular local singer K’Lunan Magat.
Organised by SMC, BCF 2026 also receives the full support of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak.
