RM341.17 Million Marina Bridge Enhances Connectivity, Serves As Miri’s New Attraction
MIRI: The RM341.17 million Marina Bridge project is expected to boost connectivity in Miri upon its completion in May 2029, shortening travel time between the city center and Kampung Pulau Melayu from approximately 25 minutes to just five minutes
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo said that the project not only benefits connectivity, but also holds potential to become a new landmark for Miri city through its unique cable-stayed bridge design.
He said this after attending a briefing and conducting a working visit to the Marina Bridge construction site here on Saturday.
According to him, the project—which has a 36-month construction period—is currently in its early stages following the commencement of construction works in May 2026.
The bridge will be constructed over a length of approximately 650 meters, in addition to involving roadworks and related amenities.
Datuk Ir Aidel noted that the iconic design of the bridge is expected to add value to Miri’s urban landscape and potentially strengthen the tourism sector through the creation of another new attraction in the city.
In the meantime, he stated that the execution of the project requires careful attention to public safety, given that the construction area will be closed throughout the duration of the works.
He added that the closure is vital to ensure construction works—including road construction and bridge structure installation—can be carried out smoothly and safely.
The Marina Bridge project is among the developments announced by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, in conjunction with the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration.
