Political Secretaries Serve As Government Information Bridge, Ensuring People Do Not Miss Opportunities
MIRI: The role of Political Secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak goes beyond delivering information on government policies and achievements; they also serve as a vital link to ensure that provided assistance and opportunities are made known to and utilized by the people.
Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Dato Fazruddin Abdul Rahman said that delivering information directly to the community is essential to ensure various government initiatives do not stop at the policy stage, but instead reach those in need.
“Our responsibility is to ensure the community is aware of the Sarawak Government’s successes, the available assistance, and the opportunities that can be utilized by the people,” he said.
He said this while delivering his speech at the Political Secretaries’ Outreach Program: Briefing and Explanation Ceremony on Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) Initiatives and Strategies Special for Pujut Constituency at the SM Pei Min Auditorium on Saturday.
According to Dato Fazruddin, Sarawak's increased revenue provides the government with leeway to expand investments in public welfare, education, infrastructure, and economic development.
He noted that efforts to strengthen Sarawak-owned companies and generate continuous revenue sources are also crucial to ensuring the state possesses a solid economic foundation to fund future development and the well-being of the people.
He added that disseminating information regarding the development agenda must be carried out comprehensively, encompassing large-scale infrastructure projects down to basic amenities that directly impact the daily lives of the community.
To ensure the effectiveness of these efforts, cooperation between elected representatives, government agencies, community leaders, and village headmen is vital in identifying local needs and ensuring development benefits reach the grassroots level.
The one-day programme also provided the community an opportunity to receive direct explanations on various government initiatives, including telecommunications planning, treated water supply, electricity and gas, education, financial assistance, the Sarawak Free Higher Education Scheme (FTES), housing purchase assistance, as well as Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak projects in the Pujut and Miri areas.
In addition to the briefing session, exhibitions and service counters were set up to enable the public to interact directly with relevant agencies, as well as obtain information and clarifications on available facilities. — UKASnews
