KUCHING: Respecting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report serves as an essential foundation in preserving the spirit of Malaysia’s formation.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan stated that both documents are not merely historical records, but instead reflect the mutual understanding, guarantees, and spirit that form the bedrock of the Federation of Malaysia.

“Respecting MA63 and the IGC Report means respecting the spirit of Malaysia itself—a federation built on trust, respect, and the recognition of the rights and interests of all parties.”

He said this in a special message in conjunction with the 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration.

According to him, after more than six decades since the formation of Malaysia, Sarawak has transformed significantly with increasingly robust economic progress and continuously rising investor confidence.

He noted that Sarawak has recorded over RM116 billion in investments from Domestic Direct Investment (DDI) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) over the five-year period since 2021.

However, he emphasised that progress cannot be measured by numbers alone; rather, true development must translate into a better future, quality education, lucrative job opportunities, and broader economic prospects for the people.

“When a family, whether in urban or rural areas, can enjoy a more prosperous life, that is the transforming Sarawak—a developed and high-income Sarawak,” he said.

Datuk Amar Awang Tengah also stressed that the strength of Malaysia lies in the strength of its constituent regions and states.

“When Sarawak progresses, Malaysia transforms. When Sarawak prospers, Malaysia becomes more prosperous,” he added.

At the same time, he called on the public to continue safeguarding unity and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that forms the nation's foundation, ensuring today's successes can be sustained for future generations. — UKASnews
