KUCHING: The spirit of unity among various races, religions, and cultures continues to be the pillar of Malaysia's strength, which must be preserved and reinforced in facing future challenges.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that the nation's journey since the formation of Malaysia in 1963 proves that stability, harmony, and the people's spirit of togetherness are the main keys to the country's progress and prosperity.

According to him, the Malaysia Day celebration observed every September 16 does not merely commemorate the historical establishment of the nation, but also serves as a platform to re-instill love and responsibility among the people toward their homeland.

“Malaysia may not be perfect, yet it is enough for us to continue living in a peaceful, calm, and harmonious environment as a result of the unity that has long been built,” he said in his message in conjunction with Malaysia Day on Tuesday.

He added that Malaysians must continue to appreciate the sacrifices of past generations who fought to defend the country's sovereignty and ensure that national dignity is always preserved.

He also emphasised that national symbols such as the Jalur Gemilang must be respected, as they symbolise Malaysia's identity, honor, and sovereignty.

At the same time, he called on all citizens to continue playing their roles as responsible national citizens by fostering values of loyalty, integrity, and patriotism.

“As children of Malaysia, we must together defend the peace and prosperity of the nation for future generations,” he said.

He also invited the people of Sarawak, in particular, to continue taking pride in their identity as children of the Land of the Hornbills, while remaining steadfast as united Malaysians. — UKASnews
