SERIAN: An allocation of RM10 million has been approved for the Terbat Tagang Integrated Tourism Facilities Development Project at Kampung Terbat Mawang, aimed at enhancing the area as an ecotourism destination and stimulating the local economy.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben said the project is being implemented under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) and involves the acquisition of 4.84 hectares of land.

According to the Kedup Assemblyman, the development will provide various facilities to improve visitor comfort and enhance the appeal of the Terbat Tagang System as a rural tourism product.

“The project will involve the construction of several facilities including a pavilion, parking area, mini market, public toilets, a gazebo, substation, cafeteria and campsite,” he said.

He spoke during Deputy Minister of Economy Dato Sri Muhd Shahar Abdullah’s official working visit to the Tagang System Project at Kampung Terbat Mawang here on Thursday.

Datuk Martin added that the integrated facilities are expected to add value to the area by attracting more visitors while creating economic opportunities for the local community.

The development will also support efforts to advance the rural tourism sector through better organised and more comfortable infrastructure and facilities.

Meanwhile, Ketua Kaum of Kampung Terbat Mawang Francis John said the tagang project initially involved residents from three villages including Kampung Muara Ahi.

Also present were representative of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak Kirolina Kisun, Serian Division Deputy Resident Abdul Khalid Manap and Tebedu District Officer Gerald George Entigar. -UKASnews
