KUCHING: Visitors attending the Sarawakku Sayang Programme (SKS) Betong Division are advised to prioritise their health and take necessary precautions following unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded across most parts of Sarawak.

Based on reports from the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Betong is among the areas recording unhealthy air quality, with an API reading of 170 as of 8 am on Thursday.

Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu said the current haze and adverse weather conditions require close attention ahead of the SKS Betong Division event, scheduled to take place from 25 to 27 September at the Betong Sports Complex.

“Let us pray together that the weather improves over these three days. Please take care of your health and wear a mask, especially if you are feeling unwell, so that the SKS programme from 25 to 27 September proceeds successfully while making full use of the spaces and opportunities provided,” he said.

He said this when appearing as a guest on the Juh Randau programme produced by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at the UKAS Studio on Thursday.

In light of this, members of the public planning to attend the event are urged to take appropriate health precautions, especially those who are unwell, and to wear face masks when in open areas or crowded locations.

SKS Betong Division is scheduled to run for three days, featuring various activities for the public running from morning until night.

Haze conditions have come under close observation ahead of the event's hosting, following the previous postponement of SKS Mukah Division due to poor air quality.

However, SKS Betong Division will proceed as scheduled, while any updates or changes stemming from weather conditions will be communicated periodically by the organisers. -UKASnews
