KUCHING: The Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Anuar Fariz Fadzil led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the Minister of International Trade and Industry (MINTRED) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also serves as Sarawak Deputy Premier, where the two discussed potential collaborations to advance digital infrastructure development in Sarawak.

According to a statement, the recent meeting focused on creating a conducive ecosystem for data centres and the semiconductor industry, with both leaders agreeing that such initiatives must deliver tangible benefits to the local economy.

They also addressed the need to enhance digital infrastructure in rural areas, which they described as vital to supporting the growth of digital economy initiatives across the state.

Opportunities within the wider digital economy were also discussed, including the potential for fulfilment centres to strengthen e-commerce within the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region.

Both Anuar and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah underscored the importance of building a robust digital framework to drive economic growth and enable seamless trading and logistics across the BIMP-EAGA area. -UKASnews
