KUCHING: Sarawak is set to host the World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global AI Summit 2027 in Kuching, bringing together leaders from the global technology industry, governments and innovation ecosystems.
The summit will be held in conjunction with the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2027.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said hosting the summit would further strengthen Sarawak’s links with global technology and artificial intelligence (AI) networks.
“The second WITSA Summit builds Sarawak’s partnership with WITSA through its Global AI Ecosystem Network, connecting our emerging AI ecosystem with international partners in technology, investment, research and policy,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the opening of IDECS 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that the WITSA Global AI Summit 2027 will also bring several international platforms to Sarawak, including the WITSA Global AI Awards, the second WITSA World Cup for the Zohari Challenge Trophy, as well as the unveiling of the second WITSA Global AI Index.
He explained that the index will provide an updated, evidence-based view of how AI ecosystems are developing worldwide, covering infrastructure, talent, entrepreneurship, use cases, data, policy and investment.
The summit will also provide Sarawak with opportunities to expand international cooperation in AI development and connecting the state’s technology ecosystem with industry players, researchers, investors and policymakers from various countries.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers, heads of departments and other invited guests. -UKASnews
