Bau District Council Achieves Fifth Place In National Local Authority Ratings
BAU: The Bau District Council (MDB) achieved fifth place out of 92 district councils nationwide in the Malaysia Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT) for 2026.
This achievement places MDB as the top-performing district council in Sarawak, gaining the council a five-star rating following an overall score of 91.61 per cent.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that MDB’s ranking improved significantly from 63rd place in 2024 to fifth place this year.
"This places the Bau District Council at the top spot among district councils in Sarawak," he said during a press conference held in conjunction with the SPB-PBT Malaysia 2026 Awards at the Bau District Council meeting room here on Monday.
Datuk Henry added that this improvement demonstrates MDB’s performance as on par with local authorities in Peninsular Malaysia.
According to him, MDB recorded an increase in its overall score from 86.17 per cent in 2024 to 91.61 per cent this year.
The Tasik Biru Assemblyman noted that the achievement comprised 12.13 per cent for management, 41.50 per cent for core services, 14.17 per cent for customer management and 13.83 per cent for community participation.
Additionally, MDB secured full marks of five per cent in the Public Service Corruption Ranking (PSCR) and another five per cent for the Clean Auditor General Certification.
Datuk Henry stated that MDB’s success is the result of the collective efforts of all council members, management and staff in enhancing governance, management and service delivery.
“The council consistently reviews and evaluates the work being carried out, while also welcoming views and feedback from the public.
“Public complaints should not be viewed negatively, instead, they help the council identify areas that need improvement,” he said. -UKASnews
