KUCHING: The Sarawak Government will continue providing a 25 per cent electricity bill discount from January to December 2027, with the RM5 monthly water bill subsidy also set to continue.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the continuation of both initiatives aims to protect the people’s disposable income against rising living costs.

“25 per cent electricity bill discount from January to December 2027, benefiting around 716,000 domestic consumers across Sarawak with financial implication amounting to RM281 million.

“RM5 monthly subsidy for water bill under the free water programme benefiting around 600,000 domestic consumers with financial implication amounting to RM35 million,” he said when tabling the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 for its second reading at the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday.

The Sarawak Premier said the targeted relief measures reflect a government that governs with compassion, foresight and responsibility, balancing fiscal discipline with social equity.

He added that the initiatives would also strengthen social safety nets, ensuring every Sarawakian, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to live with dignity, hope and security. -UKASnews
