KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is focusing on implementing the Sarawak Energy Transition Plan (SET-P) starting this year as part of efforts to shape a more sustainable, affordable and low-carbon energy future.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the state government has allocated RM10 million in 2027 to fund targeted initiatives under the plan.
“To catalyse this, a sum of RM10 million is allocated in 2027 for targeted initiatives, including Energy Transition Matching Grant for project development and pilots, and the Energy Efficiency Grant to encourage audits and savings in buildings and industries.
“We are also establishing the Sarawak Blended Finance Network to mobilise capital and ensure financing flows to projects that advance sustainability,” he said.
He said this when tabling the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 for its second reading at the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday.
According to him, SET-P, introduced in August 2025, aims to contribute RM550 billion to Sarawak's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), create over 80,000 jobs and attract up to RM700 billion in investments by 2050.
He added that through SET-P, Sarawak's energy transition is integrated with the state's wider goals of economic diversification, investment growth, energy security and environmental sustainability. -UKASnews
