RM20 Million Allocated For GHGMS Phase 2 Development
KUCHING: The government has allocated RM20 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for the development of the Greenhouse Gas Management System (GHGMS) Phase 2 to strengthen climate governance in the state.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said RM10 million of the allocation has been earmarked for 2027 to develop the system.
“It will ensure every tonne of carbon emitted in Sarawak is accounted for, monitored, and managed,” he said.
He said this when tabling the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 for its second reading at the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday.
According to Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, GHGMS Phase 2 will serve as the digital engine of Sarawak's climate governance by strengthening measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions.
He added that the system would also operationalise the carbon levy, carbon credit management and carbon registry. -UKASnews
