Nine Major Projects Planned To Drive Development In Meradong
KUCHING: Nine major development projects are planned for Meradong to strengthen healthcare facilities, basic infrastructure, road connectivity and public amenities, with the aim of improving residents’ well-being and quality of life.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the key projects included the construction of a haemodialysis centre in Sungai Tulai and the upgrading of water supply pipes to Bintangor town and Sungai Mador.
He said all the projects were currently at the design and tender stages as part of efforts to accelerate development in the area.
“These projects are not merely physical infrastructure. They are investments in the well-being of the people, the vitality of the local economy and Meradong’s long-term development potential,” he said.
He said this when debating the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026, at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here on Wednesday.
Other planned projects included the construction of a Bintangor swimming pool and Bintangor Town Hall, a reinforced concrete bridge linking Jalan Muhibah to Kampung Rancak, as well as the development of Bintangor Waterfront and Anjung Usahawan Meradong.
The plans also included the construction of an alternative road linking Jalan Kilang to Jalan Genting and the upgrading of Bintangor Recreational Park.
Meanwhile, Datuk Ding highlighted several proposed development projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), including the construction of 55 Rumah Spektra Permata units, the Second Trunk Road, Jalan Pasi–Bintangor and Jalan Pasi–Pan Borneo.
He said improvements to the road network were essential to enhancing connectivity, facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce and improving residents’ access to educational and healthcare facilities.
Reviewing Meradong’s development achievements from 2022 to 2026, he said RM25 million had been allocated through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to implement 296 projects, while RM9.57 million had been channelled through the Minor Rural Project (MRP).
He also stressed that Meradong’s development must be comprehensive and inclusive to ensure the benefits of economic growth were shared equitably among urban and rural communities, as well as longhouse residents. -UKASnews
