Kuala Tatau Health Clinic Needs Upgrading, Says Jepak Assemblyman
KUCHING: The Kuala Tatau Health Clinic needs to be upgraded to improve the delivery of healthcare services to the local community.
Jepak Assemblyman Iskandar Turkee said the clinic is located in a rural area and serves residents of coastal villages and nearby longhouses.
"The clinic building and quarters are still made of timber. Therefore, I urge that the Kuala Tatau Health Clinic be upgraded to provide comfortable healthcare access, with improved infrastructure, the procurement of new equipment and better quality of medical services," he said.
He said this when debating the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
Iskandar said health clinics play a vital role as the backbone of Malaysia's primary healthcare system by providing easy, quick and affordable access to treatment for the people.
"One of the main roles of health clinics is to provide treatment for minor ailments, fever, common infections and minor wounds without the need to go to hospital. They also offer antenatal care for expectant mothers, postnatal care, infant growth monitoring and complete immunisation programmes.
"They also play a role in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and carry out early screening and monitoring of chronic illnesses through initiatives such as the National Health Screening Initiative (NHSI) and PeKa B40," he said.
He added that the clinic also offers dental services, as well as follow-up care and rehabilitation for chronic patients, including occupational therapy and basic physiotherapy, at low and affordable treatment costs. -UKASnews
