AirBorneo Urged To Strengthen Flight Connectivity From Sibu
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has been urged to consider strengthening AirBorneo's flight network from Sibu, particularly for the Sibu–Kuching, Sibu–Kuala Lumpur, and Sibu–Kota Kinabalu routes, once the second batch of aircraft arrives to operate in Sarawak.
Bukit Assek Assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek stated that residents in Sibu and the central region of Sarawak continue to face high airfares, reduced flight frequencies, and limited direct flight options.
“For Sarawakians, air travel is not a luxury, but an essential service for business, education, medical treatment, employment, and family commitments,” he said.
He said this while debating the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
He added that the Sibu–Kuching route is vital for connecting central Sarawak with the state capital, while direct flights to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu are crucial for supporting business activities, tourism, and regional linkages. — UKASnews
