PUSA: Regata Tandang Sari (RTS) 2026 serves as an important platform to preserve local cultural heritage, strengthen community unity and promote the unique attractions of Pusa District.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said cultural heritage such as RTS must continue to be preserved and passed down to younger generations to ensure the identity and traditions of local communities remain intact.
“RTS is a heritage that must be preserved and passed down to younger generations to ensure the identity and culture of local communities endure,” he said.
He said this in a speech read by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah at the opening ceremony of RTS 2026 at Dataran Tandang Sari here on Saturday.
According to Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, RTS also plays a role in fostering unity and a spirit of cooperation among people of different races and religions through the various activities organised.
He also described RTS as an opportunity to showcase local cultural heritage and products to visitors, while providing entrepreneurs with opportunities to market their products.
Meanwhile, Batang Lupar Member of Parliament Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said the boat race, which is the main attraction of RTS, represents Sarawak’s heritage and uniqueness and has the ability to unite people regardless of race or background.
He expressed hope that RTS would continue to be strengthened, as it not only promotes Sarawak’s tourism industry but also generates economic opportunities for traders, handicraft producers and local entrepreneurs.
