Sarawak Maintains AAA Credit Rating With Stable Outlook
KUCHING: Sarawak has maintained its AAA credit rating with a stable outlook after the Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (RAM) reaffirmed the rating in June 2026.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Second Minister of Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Moody’s Ratings and S&P Global Ratings had also reaffirmed the state’s investment-grade credit ratings at A3 and A-, respectively.
“These commendable investment-grade credit ratings demonstrate our strong financial position. However, allow me to stress that credit ratings are not an end in themselves.
“Instead, they reflect the principles we consistently uphold, namely prudent fiscal management, disciplined spending, strong reserves, responsible borrowing and sound governance,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
In addition, Datuk Amar Douglas said Sarawak had received an Unqualified Audit Certificate for its Public Accounts for the 2025 financial year, extending its record to 24 consecutive years.
He explained that the recognition reflected the strength of the state’s governance institutions and the prudent practices that continued to guide Sarawak’s financial management.
In this regard, he expressed his appreciation to state civil servants for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining high standards of governance and financial discipline.
He said their commitment helped strengthen the credibility of government institutions and boost public confidence in the responsible, transparent and effective management of the state’s resources. -UKASnews
