Sarawak Promotes Advanced Industries Investment Opportunities At Invest Malaysia Day
SINGAPORE: Sarawak highlighted its growing opportunities in advanced industries and high-technology investment at Invest Malaysia Day 2026, held at the Grand Hyatt here on 22 October 2026.
According to a statement by Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), the joint participation of STATOS and SMD Semiconductor provided a platform to showcase Sarawak's potential in semiconductor design, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) and clean-energy technologies.
“Organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) in partnership with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and CIMB, the event brought together business leaders, investors and investment promotion agencies to explore investment opportunities across Malaysia,” it said on Tuesday.
In the same statement, SMD Semiconductor Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dato Shariman Jamil highlighted potential areas for collaboration with investors, technology providers and industry partners during his sharing session, Beyond Energy: Sarawak’s Next Frontier in Semiconductors and High Value Industries.
“These include AI infrastructure and data centres, renewable energy systems, smart metering, battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters and solid-state transformers.
“He also outlined opportunities across the semiconductor value chain, from chip design and technology development to system integration, commercialisation and ASEAN market expansion,” the statement said.
During the session, Dato Shariman presented keteq.GaN, Sarawak’s first locally designed gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductor chip, showcasing SMD’s growing capabilities in semiconductor design and intelligent power technologies.
Complementing this industry engagement, STATOS CEO Chew Chang Guan and STATOS Senior Manager for Trade and Investment Tan Teng Cheng shared Sarawak’s investment proposition, highlighting opportunities for Singapore-based companies and global industry partners to participate in Sarawak’s growing industrial and semiconductor ecosystem.
“Through its participation, STATOS continues to facilitate business connections between Sarawak and Singapore, supporting efforts to attract investment, encourage technology collaboration and create high-value employment opportunities.
“The event also reinforced Sarawak's commitment to economic transformation under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, positioning the state as an emerging destination for advanced industries in the region,” it said. -UKASnews
