Permanent Sarawak Skills Campus Sought In Sri Aman To Expand TVET Opportunities
SRI AMAN: The establishment of a permanent Sarawak Skills campus in Sri Aman has been proposed to expand opportunities for youths in the division to pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said the proposal had been submitted to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for consideration and support.
He said the Sarawak Skills Training Centre in Sri Aman, which has been operating from rented premises since 2024, had trained 67 students through three Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) programmes, demonstrating the potential for skills training development in the division.
“This achievement proves that Sri Aman has considerable demand and potential in the field of TVET.
“Therefore, to enable more students to enrol and more technical courses to be offered, I respectfully seek the consideration and support of the Honourable Premier for the construction of a permanent Sarawak Skills campus in Sri Aman,” he said.
He said this when delivering his welcoming remarks at the 2026 Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Programme for the Sri Aman Division at the Sri Aman Sports Complex here on Saturday.
Datuk Dr Malcolm added that 1,766 participants had also attended various short-term courses, including information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), downstream pineapple product processing and digital design.
He said the establishment of a permanent campus was important to improve the employability of local youths and provide a skilled workforce to meet the needs of Sarawak’s economic development.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Ministers, Sri Aman MP Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodi, Sri Aman Division Resident Mahra Salleh, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
