Expanded Access To Treated Water, Residents Around Julau Benefit From RM25.7 Million Project
JULAU: Residents in the Julau area and its surroundings are currently able to benefit from more comprehensive water supply services, following an increase in the capacity of the local water treatment plant and the expansion of the distribution pipeline network.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said that the project focuses on addressing capacity limitations within the existing system while expanding residents' access to treated water.
According to him, an increase in production capacity by 3.4 million liters per day (MLD) allows the Julau Water Treatment Plant to meet higher demand through upgraded processing facilities.
“Infrastructure has been strengthened through the construction of raw water intake facilities and pumping stations, ensuring a more efficient supply process,” he said during his address at the inauguration ceremony of the Julau Water Treatment Plant here on Monday.
The project, which commenced on 25 August 2024, became operational on 14 August 2026.
Additionally, the installation of 28.8 kilometres of new piping serves as a key component in expanding service coverage and reinforcing the distribution system in the affected areas.
Dato Sri Julaihi noted that these improvements have also benefited residents in Julau town, where the water supply is now more stable, with adequate pressure and eliminating the need for nighttime rationing.
He added that residents from Bejawai to Nanga Luau have experienced a significant change, as these areas now have access to a treated water supply.
For the area along Jalan KJD, particularly from Mile 15 to Mile 17, the project provides an additional water source, reducing reliance on the system originating from Machan, Kanowit.
He added that the development of water infrastructure will continue to be prioritised, as such facilities are directly linked to public health, economic activities and the improvement of the community's standard of living.
Julaihi stated that this initiative, valued at RM25.7 million, reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to ensuring the continued enhancement of basic amenities, particularly to meet the needs of rural communities. -UKASnews
