Main Pipeline Upgrade & New Plant Set To Boost Water Supply In Julau
JULAU: Addressing water supply disruptions along Jalan KJD is a key focus of water infrastructure development in Julau through a project to upgrade the main pipeline.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said that this measure is essential for enhancing the capacity of the water distribution system, particularly in areas experiencing supply issues.
“We are also taking steps to address water supply disruptions affecting areas along Jalan KJD, including Assan Nunggang, by proposing upgrades to the existing pipeline system,” he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Julau Water Treatment Plant here on Monday.
According to Dato Sri Julaihi, the project involves replacing 600-millimeter diameter Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) pipes, spanning from the Bintangor junction to the KJD booster station.
The upgrading works are currently underway and are scheduled for completion in December 2026, with the aim of improving distribution efficiency and reducing supply interruptions for residents.
In a related development, the state government is also planning the construction of a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 30 million liters per day (MLD) under Package 2 of the Julau Water Supply Project.
He noted that this proposed development is currently in the planning stage, serving as a preliminary measure to increase the production capacity of treated water in the district.
“The construction of this new plant is a long-term measure to ensure that treated water production capacity can be increased in tandem with future population growth and the development of the area,” he added.
Dato Sri Julaihi said that such planning is essential to ensure that water supply requirements can be met consistently, in line with the growth and development of the Julau district.
He added that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak would continue to monitor the progress of water infrastructure projects to ensure that implementation remains on schedule and meets established targets.
These efforts reflect the state government’s commitment to strengthening water supply facilities, improving the quality of service for residents in both urban and rural areas. -UKASnews
