PRN13 Candidates Must Understand Sarawak Development Agenda, Possess Integrity & Credibility
KUCHING: A thorough understanding of Sarawak's development policies and direction, alongside personal integrity and credibility, should be among the key priorities in the selection of candidates for the 13th Sarawak State Election (PRN13).
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said every candidate should possess extensive knowledge, maturity of thought and the ability to effectively explain government policies and achievements to the people.
According to him, key achievements that candidates should understand include the free tertiary education initiative, the takeover of strategic assets, and increased state revenue which has enabled greater allocations for development, particularly in rural areas.
He said this when met by reporters after attending the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) Supreme Council meeting at the party's headquarters on Wednesday.
Commenting on the criteria for candidate selection, Datuk Abdullah who is also a PBB Supreme Council member explained that age is not the primary deciding factor but instead, wisdom, maturity of thought and the ability to understand current development needs should take precedence.
He added that the candidate screening process would be conducted more thoroughly, covering integrity, health, personal reputation and community relations to ensure those selected are credible and capable of fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them by the people.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of public participation in the democratic process, urging a high voter turnout especially among young voters aged 18 to 35, as well as veteran voters.
"If the people truly support and love this state and appreciate what we are doing, they must come out and vote. We want a high voter turnout," he said.
He also reminded all parties involved in election preparations to remain ready for any eventuality, including weather-related challenges and the monsoon season, to ensure a smooth electoral process. -UKASnews
