Infrastructure Development Enhances Access To Interior Baram
KUCHING: The development of road networks and bridges in the Baram region serves as a catalyst for opening up previously isolated interior areas, enabling new economic potential to be explored through the adoption of modern technology.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that improved connectivity via infrastructure development allows these areas to be linked with other regions, thereby paving the way for more comprehensive development.
“With this connectivity, the area is no longer isolated.
“Equipped with new technology, we can develop the Baram region—among others, by leveraging modern technologies such as carbon trading,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the Deepavali Open House luncheon hosted by Dato Shankar R. P. Asnani here on Sunday.
According to him, ongoing efforts include the construction of a road from the vicinity of the Orang Ulu National Housing and Development Association (FORUM) building through Marudi, alongside a newly completed bridge designed to improve access to the interior.
He noted that the approximately 140-km route from Marudi to the Ulu region forms an integral part of efforts to strengthen connectivity across the area.
He added that enhanced accessibility enables the Baram region to be developed by harnessing modern technologies, including carbon trading activities that hold the potential to become a new economic driver.
Meanwhile, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari emphasised that Sarawak's development must continue to be reinforced to navigate shifting global economic landscapes leading up to and beyond 2030, driven by technology adoption and the cultivation of expertise across diverse professional fields.
He also underscored that political stability and societal harmony remain vital foundations in ensuring the continuity of state development while enabling every community to collectively share in the benefits of Sarawak's progress.
