‘Order Of The Rising Sun, Gold & Silver Star’ Is An Award For Sarawak
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said that the ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold & Silver Star’ awarded to him by the Japanese Government is not merely a personal recognition, but an honour for the entire state of Sarawak.
He explained that the award is a direct acknowledgment of the policies introduced by Sarawak, particularly in the energy sector.
“This award is not for me personally, but for the state of Sarawak, as a global recognition of the progressive policies we have implemented, especially in the energy sector.
“Sarawak is now focusing on the development of hydrogen energy and renewable energy, with Japan being one of our key strategic partners in exploring new technologies based on green energy,” he said.
He shared this with reporters after officiating Third Session of the 29th Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Convocation Ceremony, here on Tuesday.
He added that the award also reflects Japan’s recognition of Sarawak’s efforts in driving low carbon footprint policies.
He stressed that recognition from a highly developed nation like Japan further strengthens Sarawak’s position in pioneering new technologies that drive today’s economy.
“This is indeed a form of global recognition, considering that Japan is an advanced and industrialised nation in Asia.
“I am confident that with this recognition, Sarawak will be able to play a more active role, especially in venturing into new technologies to drive the economy of the future,” he added.
For the record, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari is the first leader from Sarawak to receive the award, which will be presented on 11 November in Tokyo. -UKASnews
