Powerboat Thrills Bring New Energy To Meradong Festival 2025
BINTANGOR: The roar of high-speed engines returned to Sungai Bintangor as the annual powerboat race once again became a major highlight of the Meradong Festival 2025, drawing enthusiasts not only from Meradong but from across Sarawak.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said he was pleased with the growing interest in this year’s edition, which saw participation from teams representing both the southern and northern regions of the state.
“This is a very encouraging development. I would also like to express my appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism and Entrepreneur Development for providing the grant to organise this year’s Meradong Festival,” he said when met at the event.
Datuk Ding said the overall festival ran smoothly and enjoyed strong response from visitors and competitors, reflecting the community’s high level of engagement.
“I hope the ministry will consider allocating additional funding next year so that the 2026 powerboat race can be organised on a larger scale,” he added.
He also extended his gratitude to the various non-governmental organisations and government agencies that collaborated to make the festival’s activities a success.
“I hope this support will continue in future editions of the Meradong Festival so that events like this can grow and benefit the entire community,” he said.
To ensure public safety, Datuk Ding reminded spectators to remain vigilant while enjoying the races.
“Personal safety must always be the top priority,” he stressed.
He also urged the relevant authorities, including the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), to maintain readiness to ensure public order and the highest safety standards throughout the festival.
This year’s Meradong Festival not only injected vibrancy into Bintangor but also reaffirmed the district’s capability to host large-scale sporting events capable of attracting diverse audiences.
“This success marks a positive step in promoting water sports in the state,” he added. -UKASnews
