Sarawak Prioritises Learning As Core Of Future Development
KUCHING: Sarawak's development is not focused solely on infrastructure; it also places a high priority on education as the core foundation for its future progress.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg stated that the true emphasis is on efforts to produce a young generation in Sarawak who are highly educated and knowledgeable to become the pillars of the state's development.
He mentioned that the state government is currently exploring new approaches to ensure that education funding in Sarawak can be implemented sustainably to meet future needs.
"We are rich in water resources, but we must know how to utilise them. We can only derive value from it if we have the knowledge. That is why, as we transition towards hydrogen, derived from water.
"We extract this hydrogen as a renewable energy source, and this energy is what will strengthen our economy," he said.
The Premier was speaking during the Presentation Ceremony of the 2025 Sarawak Premier's Special Awards (AKPS) here on Monday.
Commenting on talent development, the Sarawak Premier stressed the need to train a highly skilled workforce that adopts positive and critical thinking so that Sarawak can continue to advance.
In addition, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also touched upon the implementation of a bilingual approach in Sarawak, which he said is crucial in high-tech sectors such as chips and semiconductors that require the use of the English language.
"Sarawak envisions a future that relies on four key components: the digital economy, gas, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage), and semiconductors," he concluded.
