Islamic Infrastructure Progressing As Sarawak Intensifies Rural Religious Development
DARO: Efforts to enhance Islamic facilities in coastal areas continue to gain momentum in Pulau Bruit, where major mosque development projects are being closely monitored to ensure timely delivery, improved worship spaces and long-term benefits for local residents.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi visited Kampung Semop, Kampung Penibong and Kampung Bruit to assess the latest progress.
During the visit, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman reviewed the construction of Masjid Kampung Semop, a RM6.77 million project currently at 8.95 per cent completion and scheduled to be finished by October 2026.
He also inspected the approved site for the upcoming Masjid Kampung Penibong, which marks the next phase of Islamic development in the area.
He said the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) continue to implement mosque, surau and burial ground projects statewide through the Special Development Assistance Fund (SDAF), with 197 projects approved from 2018 to October 2025.
He added that various religious education initiatives will also be continued next year to strengthen Islamic understanding and empower mosques as community learning hubs.
Also present was Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and Semop Assemblyman, Datuk Abdullah Saidol who stressed that religious facilities must grow in tandem with ongoing infrastructure development to strengthen community wellbeing.
