Forest Department Sarawak Wins Four Prestigious Awards At GAGA 2025
LANGKAWI: it was a historic milestone for Sarawak as the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) proudly brings home FOUR prestigious awards at the Green and Global Awards (GAGA) 2025, held at the Langkawi International Convention Centre.
These achievements reaffirm Sarawak’s rising leadership in sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, green innovation, and geopark development.
The Four Awards are Geopark of the Year for the Sarawak Delta Aspiring Global Geopark: Borneo’s Cradle of Origin; Green Organisation of the Year for its Greening Sarawak Campaign (Forest Landscape Restoration): Leading Malaysia’s Green Transformation; Biodiversity Conservation Award for its Orchid Conservation as a Pillar of Green Sustainability; and Excellence in Technology Innovation –for its world -first deployment of drone-based thermal & RGB imaging for the critically endangered Tri-Coloured Langur in the Jemoreng Protected Peat Swamp Forests.
Director of Forests Sarawak, Datu Hamden Mohammad, said the win reflects the hard work, innovation, and commitment of FDS officers across all divisions, supported by strong state policies that prioritise sustainability and environmental stewardship.
“These awards recognise the dedication of our team, the vision of the Sarawak Government, and the partnerships we’ve built with communities, researchers, and international institutions. It validates our shift toward conservation, science-led decision-making, and green economic transformation,” he said.
These awards strengthens visibility for the Sarawak Delta Aspiring Global Geopark in its journey towards UNESCO Global Geopark status.
These recognitions highlight FDS’s ongoing efforts in restoration, technology integration, enforcement digitalisation, wildlife protection, and community empowerment.
