Kalaka Backs Budget 2026, Calls For Faster Rural Upgrades
KUCHING: The Sarawak Budget 2026 has been described as a strategic and people-centred plan that strengthens rural development and long-term state resilience.
Kalaka Assemblyman, Mohammad Duri, said this when debating the Supply (2026) Bill, 2025 during the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Thursday, expressing full support for the budget.
He said the financial framework tabled by the Premier of Sarawak underscores the government’s commitment to fiscal stability and inclusive development, with RM9.3 billion allocated for infrastructure and essential services.
Mohammad Duri highlighted several urgent issues in Kalaka and Saratok, including the dilapidated condition of SK Haji Bollah Kaba, frequent blackouts in Saratok, and overcrowding at Hospital Saratok.
He called for accelerated upgrading works, improved power distribution systems and the establishment of a new Saratok Health Clinic.
He also appealed for the extension of treated water supply to more villages, faster installation of water meters, and long-term flood mitigation measures, including a new monsoon drain for Saratok town.
Other priorities raised were new trading premises for small traders, timely completion of the Kupang–Bajau Road and Sungai Krian Second Bridge, repairs to the Saratok wharf pontoon, and urgent action on riverbank erosion in Kampung Melango and Kampung Kupang.
Mohammad Duri further urged stronger enforcement against online gambling and proposed identifying a new site for a Saratok Police Station. -UKASnews
