Sri Aman & Betong Announced As Joint Hosts For SUKSAR IV 2026
KUCHING: Sri Aman and Betong will jointly host the fourth edition of the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) in 2026, marking the start of an intensive preparation phase for the state’s largest zonal sporting event.
The First Meeting of the Main Committee was chaired on Thursday by the Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
During the meeting, it was proposed that SUKSAR IV be held over four days, from 5 to 8 February 2026, with Betong chosen as the venue for the opening ceremony, while Sri Aman will play host to the closing ceremony.
The selection of both venues is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the sports development ecosystem in central Sarawak, while also generating economic spillover for the surrounding communities.
This edition of the games will feature 11 main sporting events: weightlifting, basketball, netball, softball, pétanque, sepak takraw, taekwondo, table tennis, boxing, cycling and karate.
Competition is expected to be more intense this time with the participation of four zonal contingents — the Northern Zone (Miri, Limbang, Bintulu), Central Zone (Mukah, Sibu, Kapit), Western Zone (Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman) and Southern Zone (Serian, Samarahan, Kuching).
The second committee meeting will be held in Sri Aman to finalise technical arrangements, logistics and venue management before the games commence.
Also present were the Permanent Secretary of MYSED, Morshidi Fredrick; Acting Director of the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), Khairul Nizam Morshidi; representatives from the Resident Office; representatives from sports associations; and officers from MSNS and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC). -UKASnews
